The characters, worlds, and choreography are all sleek and creative, and new customization options for your avatar give you plenty of ways to personalize. Just Dance 2023 has done plenty to update the series stylewise. There’s plenty of hope for the track list to go from okay to great. Ubisoft has already announced updates for the game that will add new songs. There is the option to purchase a Just Dance + membership, which allows you access to a number of older songs (including Boney M.’s “Rasputin,”) but if you don’t want to pay $3.99 a month, don’t fret. However, there are three versions of “Toxic” alone, and in the line up are very few songs from 2022. It has quite a few songs from the early 2000s and 2010s, a few songs from the 60s and 70s, and a few Just Dance originals. In addition, the tracklist for the game is…just okay. ![]() It’s not a make or break change, but it does take some of the fun out of the online multiplayer option. It instead only allows for private groups. It’s a great feature, and extremely fun, but 2023’s version doesn’t include the ability to connect with random players or participate in global dance parties. While the online multiplayer functions pretty well, unfortunately it’s just a stand in for a feature in previous games: World Dance Floor, an online multiplayer mode that allowed the player to create private rooms as well as battle against people from all over the world and see global scores in real-time. The customization admittedly isn’t all that interesting – or that great of an incentive to keep playing – but it’s worth spending a few minutes to use the things you unlock to dress up your profile. Points unlock items to customize your avatar and dancer card, as well as emoji stickers for the online multiplayer chat. Each mode allows you to choose songs and earn points for each performance. The game allows for single-player, which includes a brief and unremarkable story mode, and both local and online multiplayer with up to five other players. If you prefer a challenge that demands a little more precision, the simple solution is play a higher difficulty song. I played Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” with my little brother, and he enjoyed it a lot because he could still manage to score a decent amount of points. For some songs, especially the ones that are a bit easier, it’s completely possible to reach megastar status by just moving around wildly. The game reads the motions of the controller in your right hand. You’ll be led in each song by a colorful coach (or multiple coaches, for some songs,) who transports you to a stylish world inspired by the song. A number of the tracks, such as Brittney Spears’ “Toxic” and BTS’ “Dynamite,” include an extreme version that features different choreography. 2023’s version of Just Dance allows you to dance to 44 tracks containing a mix of songs from artists such as BTS, Ava Max, Evanescence, and Linkin Park.
